The mental models of product management
How you think about product management changes everything. Also, the importance of Wombats!
Turns out that my posts on soft skills and turning feature factories into gardens were some of the top posts on Mind The Product earlier this year. I had the chance to speak with Lilly Smith and Randy Silver from Mind The Product about them, about a new way to think about products (particularly SaaS), and how the change in mental model is the basis underpinning a cultural shift. Well, that and being subversive 😉
I plan a longer post on the surprising overlap between systems thinking and creative writing, and how this overlap powers successful transformations and strategies. For now, you can listen to the podcast episode on The Product Experience site, Spotify, or the platform of your choice.
If you do listen to it, I’d love to hear what you thought! Do you find this useful? Any insights, or similar experiences?
Substack Notes
BTW, I’m also using the Notes function of Substack. Trying to see if & how I can spark interesting conversations there (as a Twitter alternative). If you’d like to check it out, head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app:
As a subscriber to Rise of the Product Leader, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around — especially replies! I really want to have more conversations around product, not just screaming into the void 😱 Feel free to ask me anything.
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of Rise of the Product Leader can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond. If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
